Week commencing 10th June 2024 - Acorns 59

Welcome to our blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week.

We have been learning about where our food comes from this week and the children have enjoyed lots of chats about where things grow.

Our letter of the week is G

We tried hard to think of things that begin with that letter.

“Goat”  EWCC

“Go away”  AP

“Grass” ML

“Gate” ES

Ryan brought in his cuddly got for us to see – Thank you !

Monday -

We enjoyed lots of time in the garden –  some of the children noticed bark peeling off from the tree stump.

We looked carefully at the markings on the bark.

The bark was dry and crumbly.

"Is it wood?"

"Why is it falling off?"

Mrs Irwin made us some delicious bread and butter pudding. YUMMY !

Tuesday –

We spent lots of time building with Duplo today.

We built huge tracks, trains and towers.

We spent lots of time in the garden.

We made lots of delicious cakes in the mud kitchen

Wednesday -

Magnet rockets were popular – we wondered how long it would take us to fly to the moon?

Thursday -

At circle time Mrs Franks gave us some potatoes to look at – she asked the children what they were and what things we could make with them.

The children thought for a while and then offered lots of fabulous ideas.

“Mashed potato” WLJ

“Crispy Potatoes” SC

“Gnocchi” IH

“Chips” RJR

“Potato Shapes” RS

“Jacket Potatoes” Mrs Franks

We were amazed to think about all the things we could make with a simple potato.

What is your favourite thing to make with potato?

Where Mrs Franks comes from – they call potatoes ‘Tatties’

Mrs Drake set up some fun activities in the tough trays -  muddy farm animals !

The children had a great time giving the animals a nice bath.

We enjoyed mark making on the chalkboard – we used chalks and paint brushes dipped in water.

Friday -

We had a very busy day.

We made our own pizza’s for lunch and chose our toppings.

The pizza dough was sticky and stretchy.

We put tomato sauce on top and then sprinkled cheese and other toppings.

They were delicious and the children really enjoyed them.

What is your favourite pizza topping?

Mrs Drake brought in some real sheep wool for us to look at.

We spoke about sheep shearing and how its a bit like when we have a visit to the hairdressers.

"The sheep gets a hair cut." RP

We used the soft fluffy wool to make some sheep pictures.

Quiz time !

Mrs Irwin has been out on the lane again taking photos.

Who can tell us what this is ?

We look forward to hearing your answers next week.

Mrs Robertson and Mrs Drake were busy all week helping the children to finish their Father’s Day surprises.

We hope that all of our Dads have a wonderful day on Sunday.

Happy Father’s Day !

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Mrs Franks and The Acorns 59 Team.
