Week Commencing 12th October 2020 - Lindfield.

What a wonderful week!

We have had lots of fun this week at The Acorns.

On Monday we made some Autumn tree pictures. We used our fingers to make prints on our paper. We understand that the leaves change colour in the Autumn before falling from the trees.

We spoke about the different colours of leaves we have seen laying on the ground and we looked out the window into our garden to check our trees.

The pictures are hanging up on one of our doors for us to look at.

We asked the children about what animals they might find snuffling around in the piles of leaves and they guessed hedgehogs!

We made some hedgehogs using chocolate scented salt dough, each child was given some dough to mould using their hands.

We collected stones and twigs from the garden and used them to create faces and spikes for our little creatures.

We had to bake the dough in the oven for a few hours.

We are very pleased with how they turned out – super cute!

We enjoyed some music sessions this week where we practised the new songs we have been learning. Does your child sing any of our songs at home?

“I like the flowers, I like the daffodils, I like the mountains, I like the rolling hills, I like the fireside when the lights are low singing a doo bop a doo bop, doo bop a doooo”

Each week Miss Matthews writes a song to help us learn the letter of the week, this week the song was about Elephants, Earthworms, Eagles, Ears, Eggs, Equality, Eyes and Earth.

We loved using the paint dabbers to create pictures - some of the colours were super sparkly.

If the artwork isn’t dry by home time and can’t be taken home that day, we file it safely in the children’s artwork folders to go home at the end of each half term.

We attempted to build a marble run, it was VERY TRICKY and took us quite some time to work it out. The children worked brilliantly as a team. The made predictions about which way the marbles would run and they measured pieces carefully before joining them together.

We had lots of fun in the garden.

It is getting a bit colder now but the sun has still been peeking through the clouds.

We enjoyed time on the pirate ship, we made marks with water on the chalkboard, used the swings and slide.

We bounced, jumped, balanced and ran, practising lots of skills!

We really enjoyed jumping off the stepper.

We were amazed at how big the rhubarb leaves were and we noticed that our beanstalk is changing, the leaves are changing colour and drying out.

We enjoyed playing with our conkers in the garden. We pretended the conkers gave us magical powers and whilst holding them we could fly, freeze things, become super fast and really really really strong.

What would your magic conker power be?

We also made something special with our huge conker haul … caterpillars. Mrs Franks used a palm drill to make holes in the conker and we threaded them onto some craft wire. We counted out 10 conkers for each caterpillar and then stuck on some eyes and drew a face.

Our conker caterpillars made friends with our hedgehogs from earlier in the week!

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Mrs Butcher well after her accident at the weekend. I am sure she will be reading this blog from the hospital, enjoying seeing the photos of the children and of course, looking out for Mrs’s Franks’ spelling mistakes :)

We miss you Mrs Butcher!

We hope you have enjoyed reading about our week and we look forward to your comments.

See you next week for more fun and adventures!
