Week commencing 20th March 2023 - Acorns 59

Welcome to this weeks blog post.

We hope that you enjoy reading about our week. Its been packed full of fun, learning and laughter.

Our focus this week has been on Gardening and typically, it has rained and rained !

Luckily, we’ve still managed to get out into the garden and have continued on our mission to make our garden summer ready.

We have been planting all sorts of lovely flowers from seed and keeping an eye on the bulbs we planted earlier which are beginning to come to life.

We have lots of daffodils in the garden and have noticed this week that a few tulips are popping up too.

Chloe’s Daddy came to do some planting with us and the children chose which seeds they would like to sew, they carefully filled up their pots with soil and then made a little hole to pop their chosen seed into. We are excited to hear how they grow – please encourage your children to tend to their own plants, checking to see if they need water or potting on. It’s a wonderful learning opportunity for them to see it through to flower and beyond.

Thank you soo much to Harry for coming in to do this activity with the children.

If you would like to come in to share some time with the children please speak to Mrs Franks who will happily organise a time for you. We love having visitors !

On one of the wet days we decided to do some indoor planting. We planted up some cress seeds for the children to grow at home. Cress is a great thing to grow with children as it tends to grow super quickly. We sprinkled the seeds onto wet kitchen towel. The children thought it was very odd that we could grow something without soil.

We also planted some potatoes this week - Mrs Irwin had sprouted some potatoes for us to plant into potato bags. We filled the bags with soil and will tend to them next term in the hope we can harvest our own potatoes. The children were fascinated to know a potato grows from a potato !!

It has been a super muddy week, our mud kitchen has been a hive of activity.

Soups, pies and ice-creams have been on the menu. Yummy!

We went for a lovely little walk to look for signs of spring. Look what we found …

What is growing in your garden at home? We would love to know – perhaps you could share some photos with us.

Here are some more photos from this week – It has been a busy one.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading about our week and we look forward to your comments.
