Week commencing 23rd September 2024 - Acorns 59

Welcome to our blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week.

This week our focus has been on ‘Our Home’

We have had lots of resources this week to spark the children’s interest in different types of homes.

We enjoyed a lovely walk again where we looked carefully at the houses on the lane and in local streets.

We talked about each house pointing out things of interest.

We have introduced new language and have learnt words like ...

·        Bungalow

·        Flat

·        Detached

. Semi - detached

·        Driveway

. Extension

. Garage

“That house has two chimneys.”

“Whoooaaa! That house has loads of windows.”

“That house has number 3 on it – I am 3!”

“My house is even biggerer than that house.”    (intentional spelling error)

We enjoyed building houses with blocks, magnets and duplo.

We even built a village !

We read books about different types of homes and learned about houses around the world and how they might be different from ours.

We thought about animals and where they might live.

"A horse lives in a stable."

"A woodlouse lives under a pot."

We collected some treasures on our walk last week and we added them to our playdough table.

The children explored their treasures, adding them to the dough to make imprints and marks.

We make our own play dough at The Acorns - If you would like our easy recipe, please ask Mrs Franks who will be happy to share it with you.

We collaged and coloured our homes.

We really enjoyed dressing up this week.

We set up the dolls house - making sure each room had the correct furniture.

"We need a sink in there."

"I have bunk beds in my bedroom."

"Maybe we need a tv room?"

We had lots of fun in the garden.

It is time to start bringing wellies and wet weather clothes to The Acorns everyday as well as spare clothes incase we get soaked or muddy.

We enjoyed using the wobble boards this week - the children have amazing balance!

The letter of the week is C

We had fun thinking of all the things that begin with those letters.

We learned the jolly phonics songs about Clicking Castanets

We hope you have enjoyed reading about our week.

Next week we will be learning about our favourite foods.

We will be celebrating Harvest Festival and also Rosh Hashanah.

We plan to make a collection of tinned / dry goods to donate to our local community larder - if you would like to bring something in to add to our basket we would be very grateful.

The children will be making decorations of our donation box.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Mrs Franks and The Acorns Team.
