Week commencing 24th Feb 2025 - Acorns 59

Hello and welcome to our blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week.

Our topic for this half term is 'Signs of Spring'

We will be learning about the new season and observing the changes it brings to our environment.

We began the week with a lovely walk into the village.

We searched for signs of spring on the way.

The children were excited to find daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses growing on the lane.

We noticed some of the daffodils had flowered, others were still in bud and some had only just popped through the soil.

We thought about why they were all at different stages and the children decided it was because flowers are all different, just like people and they grow at different times.

"Maybe they got planted later?"

"I think they didn't get any sunshine to grow them."

"They are still sleeping and haven't grown yet."

"I am taller than a daffodil though cause I am growed. I am 4"

We wondered what had been munching on the leaves.

We walked through the allotments and looked to see if we could spot any new things growing and chatted about the fruit and vegetables that grow in the space.

We walked onwards to the pond to visit the ducks and watched as a moorhen splashed around, shaking its feathers.

"It's having a bath."

We have enjoyed lots of time in our garden this week and are noticing signs of spring popping up.

We have daffodils and snow drops growing and found some new buds on our trees.

We had lots of fun outside in the sunshine.

Here are a selection of photos.

We have also been thinking about the bugs and minibeasts we might be able to find in the spring time and got crafty and made some to display int he nursery.

We made bumblebees, ladybirds and butterflies.

On Thursday we watched a huge Bumblebee as it flew around the garden - its the first one we have seen in a long time.

We thought about the animals that hibernate over the long winter and wondered if they would be waking up soon.

Can you think of any animals that hibernate?

We did some planting this week - Mrs Irwin gave us something special to plant.

The children thought they were very funny indeed.

"It looks like hair."

"Are they roots?"

"How many potatoes will grow?"

Here are a some more photos from our week.

We hope you have enjoyed looking at our blog post and learning about the things we have been doing at The Acorns this week.

Next week we will be focusing on Spring Flowers and also celebrating Farsang which is a Hungarian festival to say goodbye to Winter and to welcome Spring.

We have lots of lovely things planned.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Mrs Franks and The Acorns Team.
