Week commencing 24th June 2024 - Acorns 25.

Hello and welcome to our blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week at The Acorns.

Mrs Neve brought in some very special things to show the children.

A birds nest and a peacock butterfly.

The children looked carefully at the birds nest and tried to work out what kind of bird it might belong too.

"Its got feathers in it."

"Birds live in it."

"Its a little one."

The children were fascinated to see it up close.

Mrs Irwin had brought some peas and each child was given a pod.

We opened up the pods, ate some and decided to plant some in our garden to see if we can grow our own pea shoots.

The children chose their own spade and dug a little hole for their peas.

"These are seeds." TS

"They are peas." AS

"I have 6 peas." SC

We found the parachute and played fun games with it before making it into a sunshade - the weather has been super hot !

The children watered their plants which are growing nicely.

We made pesto for lunch using some of the herbs that we have growing in our garden.

The children were excited to see it transform from plant to food.

We played outside under the shade of the parachute, enjoying water play to help keep us cool.

We made apple and carrot muffins.

Firstly, we looked carefully at all of the ingredients we needed to make the muffins.

We then weighed and measured ingredients before mixing and scooping into muffin cases.

Everyone enjoyed their muffin after lunch. Delicious.

We put together a new number line with numbers 11-20 as some of our children have shown signs they are ready to explore higher numbers.

We did lots of singing.

I wonder if the children sing their Acorns songs at home? We would love to know.

TWCC serenaded his friends and everyone joined in.

"Hello everybody, how are you?"

This moved on to The wheels on the bus, Wind the bobbin up and many more.

The children are learning the actions to the songs and its so lovely to see them participating fully as their confidence grows.

We looked at different fruits and vegetables and talked about their shape, size, colour and taste.

If we could eat them raw or if they needed to be cooked & we talked about if we liked them or not.

"Is a fruit?"

"Is it a vegetable?"

"Where does it come from?"

"What is it?"

Next week - Fun Sports Week

Family Picnic on Wednesday - We hope you can all join us.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
