Week commencing 29th January 2024 - Acorns 59.
Hello Everyone.
Welcome to our blog post.
We have had a wonderful week learning all about Australia.
We know that Australia is very far away and that it would take a very long time to get there.
We know we have to go on a plane, maybe even 2 planes to get there.
We have been learning about the animals that live there, especially Koalas and Kangaroos.
The children loved jumping around, stuffing soft toys up their t-shirts and pretending it was their joeys inside their pouches.
We went on a search for koalas, snakes and bugs in the garden. We had binoculars and magnifying glasses and we all searched high and low.
We found lots of interesting things.
Rafi brought in some lovely Australian story books – we enjoyed reading them during our circle times. Thank you for sharing with us. Maybe we will add Wombat Stew to our menu ?
We loved the Lamingtons you brought in. They were delicious.
Miss Searle made some koalas with the children.
They used scissors to cut out their shapes and decorated the faces with eye stickers.
Mrs Robertson also brought some books in from home which we enjoyed reading together as a group – we loved this book about Koalas.
We did some traditional Australian art work in the form of dot paintings – we also looked at some aboriginal art.
Mrs Irwin showed us her boomerang and the teachers explained how it works.
We decided to make our own out of cardboard. The children designed their own patterns – many choosing a rainbow style.
They spent lots of time throwing them around the nursery.
We talked about the Great Barrier Reef and enjoyed some water play - looking at amazing and colourful fish.
We hope you have enjoyed reading about our week.
Next week, we will be travelling to China and will celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Have a fabulous weekend everyone.
Mrs Franks and The Acorns 59 team.
