Week commencing 30th September 2024 - Acorns 25.

Hello and Welcome to our blog.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week at The Acorns 25.

We have had a very busy week with lots of fun, learning and laughter.

We learned about Rosh Hashanah which is the Jewish New Year.

We enjoyed a lovely story about Sammy the Spider which explained some of the traditions around the celebration.

The children painted or decorated paper that was later rolled to create their very own shofar.

The shofar is a musical horn that is blown to call everyone to the Synagogue to welcome the New Year.

We noticed that some of our battery operated toys weren't working as well as they should.

Some of the children used screwdrivers to open the battery compartments and changed the batteries.

On one of the toys, even new batteries didn't help as the connections had gone a bit rusty - we used this as an opportunity to talk about rust and to understand why our battery toys shouldn't be left outside to get wet.

We enjoyed a lovely walk to the allotments and counted 13 different types of vegetables/fruits growing including onions, raspberries, blackberries, chard, apples & pumpkins.

We had to look very carefully - our binoculars helped us to see.

The children did amazingly well identifying the vegetables growing.

We talked about our favourite things to eat and the children chatted to each other about what foods they enjoyed and disliked.

Later in the week we walked to the Highstreet and visited both the Co-op and the Green Grocers.

We were able to recall the things we had seen growing at the allotments.

it was interesting to see the packaging of the items.

We enjoyed some sunshine in the garden this week.

We had a great time blowing bubbles and chasing them around.

Just look at those lovely smiles !!

We did some Autumn Conker rolling pictures - using the conkers we collected on our walk.

We put some paper in our tray and then splashed in some paint before rolling the conkers around. We loved how the pictures turned out and will save them to be part of our library display in a few weeks.

What a great activity to try at home too.

We explored our frozen dinosaurs (Which the children had frozen a few weeks ago)

The children had great fun racing them down the gutters and watching the ice melt in their hands.

We have re filled our ice cube trays again to refreeze - requested by O.F and W.C

We did a floating and sinking experiment with vegetables - the children made predictions and then we tested our thoughts.

The parsnip was a favourite as it floated at the top and the bottom end sank down into the water.

We made a special pudding with Mrs Irwin using Pain Au Chocolat.

It was delicious.

The children did a great job of stirring, whisking and mixing the ingredients.

Excellent team work!

We painted apple trees using a carrot as a stamper.

We talked about the apples we had seen growing and some children said they have apple trees in their own gardens.

Here are a few more photos from our week.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog. We hope you have enjoyed it and look forward to your comments.
