Week commencing 7th October 2024 - Acorns 59
Welcome to our blog post.
This week our theme has been Keeping Healthy including Oral Health.
Oral Health has been added to the Early Years Framework because it is important that good oral health habits are formed from the earliest age.
Tooth decay is largely preventable but it’s still a very serious problem among many young children. Nearly a quarter of 5-year-olds in England have tooth decay, with 3 or 4 teeth affected on average.
Did you know that tooth extraction is one of the most common procedures for children under 6 in hospital?
We have talked a lot this week about ways to keep our teeth and gums healthy.
The children enjoyed telling us about their toothbrushes and what type of toothpaste they use.
“My toothbrush has spider man on it.”
“My toothbrush is electric and red.”
“I don’t like spicy toothpaste.”
“I have red strawberry toothpaste.”
“You have to spit it out into the sink.”
We read stories about visiting the dentist, the tooth fairy and why it is important to look after your teeth.
We watched a little video on the laptop about a trip to the dentist.
Our friend had visited the dentist that morning and she was able to tell us about her experience. She even had a special sticker to show us that the Dentist gave to her.
We cleaned our dinosaurs teeth
We role played visiting the dentist and practised opening our mouths wide.
We also invited our cuddly toys to have check ups.
We also spoke about healthy foods, exercise and the importance of rest/sleep.
We did a yoga session – it was lots of fun. Not quite as peaceful as we had expected – there was lots of laughing and toppling over.
We enjoyed a few walks this week and spent some time in the garden in between the rain showers.
Please can I ask everyone to bring in puddle suits/ wet weathers for the children and to make sure we have wellies too.
Thank you.
On our walk we collected different coloured leaves and noticed lots of interesting things.
We saw a big spider spinning a web on the hedge.
We used the map we made a few weeks ago to help us find our way.
We walked up the Lane and onto Compton Road to see the house with the special tree – We loved seeing the bumble bees and lady birds. The children were fascinated by them and we are already excited to see what the next display will be.
In the past and currently, we have had families who attend The Acorns live on Compton Road and we want to support them in their quest to have the speed limit on the road reduced or some type of traffic calming put in place.
There have been some nasty accidents on the road lately and many cars have been damaged.
Please support the committee to make our roads a safer place for everyone.
Everyone should have received an email this week from Sophie with the links.
We did some exercises in the garden and the conversation turned to our feet and how they are so important to take care of.
We need to wear sensible shoes that fit us well, keep our feet clean and our nails trimmed.
We drew around the children's feet and used pre cut squares to measure how big their feet are.
"My feet are 6 squares."
"Whoooaaa I have 7 squares."
"My feet are bigger now cause I'm growing."
Our letter of the week is Ee
Can you think of anything that begins with that letter ?
We sang the phonics song - Eggs in the pan.
We even used props this week while we sang.
'Eggs in the pan, Eggs in the pan
e e e e
Eggs in the pan.'
Sticky sheets - we love using our sticky sheets and they are really helping us to learn the letters in our name.
We are still busy making pictures for the Library Display.
This week we made Autumn tree pics.
The children painted their hands and arms and printed them onto the paper to make the tree trunk.
We then finger painted our Autumn leaves in lovely colours.
Here are a few extra photos from our week.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Thank you for reading our blog post.
As always, we look forward to your comments.
