Week commencing 9th September 2024 - Acorns 59
Welcome to our blog post.
We hope you have all had a wonderful week.
It’s been a busy week at The Acorns.
We said farewell to some more of our school leavers and wished them well as they head off to big school.
We have loved to have some of our leavers pop in this week to show us how grown up they look in their uniform and to let us know how their first few days at school have gone.
The door is always open and we will always welcome you back for visits.
Our project this week was “All about me”
We have enjoyed lots of fun activities together.
The children drew their self-portraits and they are now on display in the cloakroom for you to see.
We love doing these drawing at the beginning of each term, it’s a great way to see the children's progression as they gain control of their mark making tools.
We spent some time looking in mirrors and noticing our similarities and differences.
We noted our eye colours and made a display to show how many children had different eye colours.
We measured the children to see how tall they were and cut a piece of wool as long as them.
The children were so excited to see the length of the wool.
They made comparisons and used mathematical language to express themselves.
“I’m taller than an ant.”
“I’m smaller than a giant.”
“I’m taller than a mountain.”
“A big mountain or a tiny mountain?”
"My Daddy is even taller."
"I will grow bigger when I am four."
We had lots of fun in the garden this week enjoying the weather – We saw rain, sun, hail and wind.
We made potions.
We blew bubbles.
We did some gardening, using the tools that were kindly gifted to us by Ottilie. Thank You So Much.
We went on bug hunts and found slugs, snails and wiggly worms.
We used the ride on toys, played on the pirate ship and ran around.
Here are a selection of photos from our garden times.
Our letter of the week is Aa
We had fun thinking of the things that begin with the letter
“Apple.”
“Acorn.”
“Andrew.”
“Acrobat”
We sang a funny song about having ants on our arm causing us alarm.
It helped us to learn the sound.
We made our own pizza for lunch this week.
We really enjoyed this activity.
We rolled out our dough and added a tomato sauce on top.
We then chose which toppings we would like - cheese, ham, peppers, tomato.
A few children asked for black olives - which we didn't have but will make sure we stock up on for next time.
What a wonderful week !
We look forward to seeing you next week for more fun, games and laughter.
Please remember to bring in a family photo for our family tree display.
Thank you for taking the time to read our blog.
We look forward to your comments.
